Tu BiShvat is the Jewish New Year for Trees — a celebration of renewal, growth, and our sacred connection to the natural world. Traditionally marking the moment when the first sap begins to rise in the trees of Israel, it invites us to notice the quiet miracles of the earth and our responsibility to nurture and protect them. It’s a festival rooted in hope: a reminder that even in the heart of summer, new life is already stirring beneath the surface. Tu BiShvat falls on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shvat, usually in late January or early February. Over time it has grown into a celebration of environmental awareness, Jewish ecology, and the deep spiritual bonds between people, land, and future generations.
At Shtiebel, Tu BiShvat is an opportunity to blend learning, ritual, and care for creation. We share the symbolic fruits and grains of the land, explore Jewish teachings on sustainability, and offer hands-on ways to give back — from planting to conservation projects. Whether joining us in person or engaging from home, we invite everyone to root themselves in gratitude, responsibility, and the promise of renewal.
