Ancient ritual and contemporary practice. Prayer, music, breath and silence.

S’lichot is one of the quiet thresholds of the Jewish year. Traditionally held in the days leading towards Rosh HaShanah, it marks the moment when we begin to turn our attention inward, preparing ourselves for the reflection, renewal and return that sit at the heart of the High Holy Days.

But you don’t need to know the prayers, have grown up with the tradition, or even be planning to attend High Holy Day services to find meaning in S’lichot.

This year, we are creating an evening designed to give us the opportunity to stop, breathe and reset. To step out of the noise and pace of everyday life and create some space to consider where we have been, where we are, and how we want to enter the year ahead.

We invite you to join us as we begin the journey towards the New Year.

S’lichot Prayers — 6.30pm

We begin with Havdala, marking the transition from Shabbat into the new week, before moving into the traditional prayers and melodies of S’lichot. Ancient words and music invite us to begin the process of turning inward.

Supper — approximately 7.15pm

Soul Sound Workshop — 7.30pm

We move beyond words into a guided Breath Circle, creating space through breath and stillness to centre ourselves and reset for the year ahead.

The Breath Circle will be led by Beata Heymann, founder and experienced breathwork and wellbeing practitioner. Beata brings together yoga, trauma-informed practice, breathwork and sound, and delivers evidence-based breathwork programs in more than 70 schools across Victoria. She also lectures in Trauma-Informed Practice at the Australian Yoga Academy.

We will close with a sound healing experience led by Rodney Pollak, founder of Music Therapy Hub and a Registered Music Therapist (AMTA) with more than ten years’ experience across palliative care, mental health, paediatric and community settings. Rodney also facilitates trauma-informed sound journeys, bringing together music, mindfulness and immersive sound to create space for wellbeing, connection and reflection.
