Many of us are asking right now what we can do to help the innocent people and the Israeli soldiers, risking their lives for our safety. In response to the outpour of support and projects that are being shared around Jewish social media platforms and chat groups, Judi Cohen will be coordinating a series of Knitting gatherings, hosted at The Shtiebel. Beanies will be knitted for Israeli soldiers and sent correctly to the IDF.
Our Knitting group began in October and has been meeting almost weekly since – hand-crafting over 200 beanies that together with other Australian based groups, have sent over 1000 beanies to the IDF.
The request from Israel is for a particular colour and style beanie. We will provide a print out of the pattern for you.
You will need Aran or 10 ply black wool or yarn that washes well, or 8 ply wool is acceptable as well. If you have yarn and 4mm-5.5mm needles to bring along please do.
Otherwise we will organise wool and needles for you. Make sure you let us know in the form below if you need us to supply your materials. We ask that you contribute $18 to help us purchase these. See the form below.
*If you can knit a scarf, you can knit a beanie. Judi will be able to provide help to follow and complete the knitting pattern (click image left to read pattern).
We encourage you to invite family and friends to join us. Please RSVP below if you would like to join us for our next Keep Knitting Together sessions.
**All funds collected for the materials will be used for this program, and any remaining will be donated to an organisation supporting Israeli soldiers.
