Our history
The Shtiebel was built as the home and office of renowned horse trainer, Angus Armanasco, a seven-time winner of the Victorian trainers’ premiership and Hall Of Fame inductee.
The Shtiebel was orginally known at the “Bird Cage” was center of the Armanasco racing empire with stables located at both rear and side of the main building.
The bespoke bar and sprawling billard room host many great parties and folklore has it that the main room operated as a clandestine illegal casino, drawing in a mix of high society figures, underworld characters, and gambling enthusiasts seeking the thrill of illicit games.
